Checklist

The concept for this checklist is to give researchers an overview of the different issues they should address in order to develop a sensible business case built upon their own research hypothesis. Here, not every question has to address right from the beginning the whole process – but nevertheless the researcher should ideally keep in mind the “big picture” while answering them. Based on “proof of concept” tools which have been examined and primarily developed on practices within “research commercialisation units”, the major issues to be dealt with have been divided into three categories, namely:

• Technology,
• Market,
• Business issues.

Fore each of the topics, important questions – in the context of an applied research hypothesis – are formulated that should be answered by a YES or a NO.

The checklist should be used in parallel with the “how-to-guide” for an applied research idea summary in order to ensure that the researcher has taken into account all the important issues before completing the summary.
